Academic Funds
In lieu of CME and book funds, MP1 residents
receive personal pocket computers (currently, Toshiba) with
software additions,
Archimedes, Internet Access Capabilities, and e-books (Redbook,
Pediatric 5-Minute Consult, Harriet Lane Handbook, Pediatric
Drug Book, Adult 5-Minute Consult, Harrison’s, and
many others). In addition, certification in Pediatric Advanced
Life Support, Neonatal Resuscitation Program, and Advanced
Cardiac Life Support are arranged at no cost to the incoming
resident.

Meals and Nutrition
All residents while on call are given meal cards to offset
the cost of meals purchased in the hospital cafeteria.
In addition, the resident refrigerator is stocked daily
with cold sandwiches, potato chips, and sodas for residents
working overnight. Meals are also provided for most noon
conferences.
Medical and Life Insurance
Medical insurance coverage is provided to residents at no
cost. Additional coverage for dependents is available at
an additional cost. Policies are currently available through
the State of Oklahoma.

One to one and a half times base pay life insurance and
professional malpractice insurance sponsored by the University
of Oklahoma Health Science Center.
Moonlighting
Off campus moonlighting is allowed. Initiation of moonlighting must be arranged by the resident and approved by the program director prior to starting.
Resident Lounge
There is a private pediatric lounge adjacent to the Chief
Resident’s Office. Residents use this area to relax,
eat, watch TV, and conduct online medical searches while
on call (internet access is also available in all patient
care areas). In addition, each resident has an assigned
desk within the Pediatric Lounge for personal use.
Parking
Covered parking is available. Reserved parking
is available for an additional fee. Internal Medicine-Pediatric
residents are provided access to both Internal Medicine
and Pediatric parking lots.
Uniforms
Four lab coats are provided to incoming residents with two
of these being embroidered. Scrubs are provided by the
hospital while on call.
Retreats/Orientation
Intern Orientation – held the last week of June
Intern Retreat – 2 day retreat including a ropes course
Emergency Department Orientation – 1 day at the end
of MP1 year
