Children’s Medical Research Institute is the only organization in Oklahoma whose sole focus is the advancement of pediatric research and education. Since its inception in 1983, CMRI has raised and leveraged matching funds to create over $50 million to fund pediatric research and education programs including collaborative projects with the University of Oklahoma College of Medicine and the Children’s Hospital at the OU Medical Center in Oklahoma City.
CMRI’s current research and education focus areas include a number of crucial areas, with a special emphasis on pediatric diabetes. To support this venture, CMRI has invested $11.7 million (providing for 4 $2M Endowed Chairs, faculty and program start-up costs and equipment) to develop a state-of-the-art research center devoted to research involving type 2 diabetes and its related co-morbidities in children, the Diabetes and Metabolic Research Program.
